and to whoever will *** this church opens wide the door and
in the name of Christ the Lord says -

WELCOME

Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord's resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

THE GEORGE C. THOMAS
MEMORIAL LIBRARY
Originally built with money from George C. Thomas, the Treasurer of the Domestic and Foreign Missionay Society of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America (The original name of the Episcopal Church). He died before it was completed so at the dedication of the "reading room" it was named in memory of him. At one time, it also served as the Public Health Nursing Station, the site of the meeting of the Tanana Chiefs with Judge Wickersham regarding land, and a City and Borough Library. In recent times, it has served also as a business site for a realty company and a credit union and is currently being used as a mining museum.

Ray Sandberg's beautiful painting of the church in Arctic Light tones. Ray is an artist who has lived close to St. Matthew's for many years, has painted professionally for 19 years - a former student of Magnus C. "Rusty" Heurlin whose palette is patterned after arctic sky colors. (Used by permission of the artist. Prints available through St. Matthew's.)
